Apprentice Teacher 

 

The role of an apprentice teacher at DB-TC is to learn how to become an effective teacher while working directly with students and a mentor teacher to help provide high quality, mission aligned education for students. Apprentice teachers are enrolled in coursework with a leading Education Preparation Provider (EPP), preferably in a facilitated program like Talent Together, leading to Michigan teacher certification. The role is for one full school year upon which, with the satisfactory completion of the registered apprenticeship and EPP coursework and with passage of the Michigan Teacher Certification Test, the apprentice teacher would be eligible to become a full-time, certified teacher at DB-TC. 

 

Primary purpose 

Through authentic practice alongside a qualified mentor teacher, an apprentice teacher will learn and develop in the practice of teaching. The apprentice teacher will be coached and developed by a mentor teacher, whose classroom they are assigned to. The apprentice teacher is under direct supervision of the mentor teacher and reports to the school’s principal. 

 

Qualifications

  • Maintain participation in EPP and meet all attendance and professional conduct requirements as established by the EPP and school district 
  • Maintain a minimum grade point average as required by the EPP 
  • Pass Michigan Test for Teacher Certification
  • Remain employed by school district 
  • Continue to complete competencies as scheduled by the on-the-job training schedule 
  • Effective positive communication skills 
  • Be committed to conflict resolution work with other staff members 
  • Be committed to learning about and implementing the mission and vision of the district and certification program 
  • Be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the role

 

Responsibilities

  • Show continual progress on competencies as outlined in on-the-job learning standards 
  • Help maintain a safe, secure, and healthy educational environment in the classroom
  • Work with a mentor teacher to implement curricula, including developing and/ or customizing lesson plans, delivering lessons, analyzing student work, and assessing student progress towards academic standards.
  • Engage with the students to actively facilitate their learning with gradually increasing instructional responsibilities with the support of a mentor teacher over the course of the year
  • Work with the mentor teacher to develop and practice communication with families in accordance with district, state and federal expectations and requirements
  • Report abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter school system employee
  • Complete coursework and training as directed by an education preparation and training program, such as Talent Together
  • Participate in all required district professional development and other meetings as required by school leadership
  • Comply with all IEPs, 504s, and other legally required plans for students 

 

Terms of employment 

Full-time/40 hours per week during the regular school calendar year. Compensation is $34,400 for the year. Standard benefits include paid time off, paid school closures, and healthcare.

School Food Service Person

 

DB-TC School is seeking a part-time Food Service Person.

Primary purpose

Under the direction of the food service director and superintendent, the food service assistant will assist in all aspects of DB-TC food service.

Qualifications

The food service assistant must:

-Meet criminal history background check requirements

-Meet certification and training requirements for MI public school food service providers

-Demonstrate a positive, hard-working attitude

-Hold a high school diploma (preferred).

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

The kitchen assistant will:

-Be a friendly, positive presence in the kitchen/lunchroom

-Assist in preparing and serving breakfast and/or lunch daily

-Assist with cleaning kitchen/lunchroom area as needed

-Wash and manage dishes

-Sub for other food service staff, as needed.

Physical requirements

The kitchen assistant must be able to:

-Repeatedly lift/carry heavy objects

-Sit/Stand/Walk for extended periods of time

-Bend/Squat/Reach/Kneel/Twist as needed.

Terms of employment

-School year (~9 months)

-Part-time (3 to 6 hour shifts)

-Wages according to negotiated contract (currently starting at $15.50/hr)

-PTO: according to negotiated contract (sick and personal time, pro-rated based on hours)

Qualifications for subbing are a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from an accredited two or four year college or university (2.0 grade point or higher) or a valid Michigan teaching certificate, and passing a criminal history background check and employment unprofessional conduct background check.
